Shel, the Doctor and My Friend LC
You
probably know who Shel and the Doctor are- but who is LC? *
Shel, the doctor and my friend LC
came by to see me one bright autumn day.
They were each one giving new words away
that they picked from the great poet tree.
The good Doctor said "You must try these.
These words are the ripest around.
When you bite them they make a glob-glurpeling sound
that attracts the bo-beezlenut bees."
"Oh no," said Shel, "you'll just attract flies.
Try these – they are wonderously tart.
But even the best words are only a start–
you must sweeten them up with surprise.
The LC strode forward and held high a word
which vanished from out of his hand.
He said "All words are magic, they are at your comand,
but they're best when they're slightly absurd."
"I will take some of each, " I loudly declared,
"but why do you give them away?"
They laughed for a while, then the Doctor did say:
"Why, the world all agrees
from the whales to the fleas,
in all of the lands and all of the seas,
maybe, perhaps, even space if you please–
that words such as these,
good fine words such as these–
carefully picked
from the best poet trees
will always taste best when they're shared."
*I wasn't going to tell you, but LC is Lewis Carol, the author of Jabberwwocky, Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass
